Winter Fun in the Northeast Kingdom
Vermont is a winter adventurer’s paradise. Between snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and even sledding, the outdoorsmen of the colder months will find that there is no better state to be in than this mountainous mecca. The world’s best beer and cheese are just bonuses!
So between slices of sharp cheddar and growlers of Edward IPA, use this handy guide to find all the most exciting winter activities and outdoor recreation near and around Highland Lodge.
Nordic Skiing: When the snow falls, you can ski right out our back door, all the way to the world-renowned Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Enjoy the views from Barr Hill, ski to right up our nearby general stores and get a great workout on our advanced terrain amidst pristine forests.
Ice Skating: Whether it’s indoor or outdoor, ice-skating is a great way to spend a winter afternoon. So lace up and hit these rinks in the Northeast Kingdom: Chester Arena in Lyndonville, Four Seasons Park in St. Johnsbury.
Snowshoeing: There are hundreds of miles of trails weaving their way through the roads of the Kingdom. Go off-road by taking to the Kingdom Trails in East Burke, 50 miles at the nearby Craftsbury Outdoor Center, 40 miles at Hazen’s Notch Trails in Montgomery, or take a tranquil moonlit trek or guided hike at the Northwoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston.
Alpine Skiing: We are an easy hour’s drive from three major ski resorts: Jay, Burke and Stowe. You’ll find more snow at Jay Peak, but more variety at the family-friendly Burke or Stowe.
